Since I wanted to go ahead and get my first “fun” post up I wanted it to be on the game that got me addicted to gaming at a very young age and although he isn’t the originator, he is one of the first “viral” characters in gaming and arguably the most important.  Mario has managed to survive over 30 years now to become probably the most iconic gaming character ever.  He is in the ranks of American Culture with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny for being recognizable by people of all ages.

So I was surfing youtube and came across this video.  I think the video creator did a pretty good job capturing the evolution of Mario through the years and I find it pretty cool that although there has been characters and other features added to the Mario gameplay theme, the character himself hasn’t really changed that much.  He still bears the red and blue getup and the signature mustache that he first wore in Donkey Kong way back in 1981.

Enjoy this look at Mario and his journey through becoming the King of Gaming Characters.

Still one of the Greatest!

I am writing the first post to give a little background information on myself and what I hope to do with this site.

I am 28 years old and have been gaming since I was 3-4 years old.  I remember watching my older brothers play the Atari gaming system and I remember our first NES (Nintendo Entertainment System for anyone who doesn’t know what that is).  I was very young but was dazzled by the first Super Mario Bros.  It was a thrill to watch Mario jump from one brick platform to the next in an almost acrobatic ballet.  Okay, so maybe it wasn’t THAT dazzling, but I was still amazed at the concept of gaming and taking control of a character and progressing through the levels.

As our small gaming collection grew, I distinctly remember watching and playing Excitebike, 10-Yard Fight, and Mike Tyson’s Punchout and getting those butterflies in my stomach while I progressed through the games.  My first huge accomplishment was defeating Contra at somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 years old and I am still proud of that today even knowing I had to have 30 lives to do it.  The Legend of Zelda was life changing for me after defeating it and there are other games such as Bubble Bobble and Super Dodgeball that still remain some of my all-time favorite games.

I still get a thrill putting some of those vintage favorites in and reliving that feeling I had as a very young boy.

Moving into adulthood I played all of the classic systems like the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Playstation 1 & 2, and now am an avid Xbox 360 gamer.  I recently began collecting vintage games and systems and although I don’t work to have them all, I work to collect any game I find entertaining because let’s face it, there are some games that well, sucked.

With that said, this site is dedicated to being an outlet for me to express my love for the games that made up my childhood and explore more games that I never had the opportunity to play as a child.  I hope to meet people through this site as well as some of my other favorite sites who share some of the same passions I do and hopefully this site will become a fun extension of my hobby.

I thank everyone for taking the time to read this post and I hope to see everyone around when I get the chance to throw my thoughts out there on gamingremix.com.
